Question for week of April 20:
How did the friendship between the girls affect the outcome of the story? What do you think might have happened if their friendship had not been so strong?
I think that the friendship that devolopes throughout the story helps strenghthen both Annemarie and Ellen. If there friendshhipi had not been so strong, then Annemarie and her family might think that it wasn't worth the danger of protecting Ellen and other Jews that were escaping to Sweden. ~Susanne~oopsies I was on williams account when I wrote that. I agree with Susan, I also think that if their freindship hadn't been so strong then Annie wouldn't have really cared for Ellen and wouldn't try and get the basket to her uncle and Ellen and the other jews might have been found. Also since Annie was such a good freind to Ellen they're parents were too, if they weren't good freinds Annie's parents might not think it's worth the risk to save Ellen. Ellen's parents might have also been caught if they had caught Ellen. Annie's freindship with Ellen also might have affected Kristi too. If Annie had not been such a good freind with Ellen then Kristi might have not thought about what she was saying and actually say "This is our freind Ellen and it's her new year" on the train.

Yeah Susanne is right if Annemarie and Ellen were as not as good friends that would make Annemarie and her family not care as much about getting Ellen and her family out of Denmark. The friendship between Annemarie and Ellen is very strong. In fact in books like this one this has the strongest friendship I have ever seen.The friendship of Annemarie and Ellen had a huge impact on how Annemarie's family helped the Rosens' . If they were not friends they could of not even helped with not even help them in the resistance Also I think that if Lise was still alive that probably Lise's family would have gotten the Rosens' out of Denmark quicker and the Nazis would be to late to get to them because Annemarie's uncle would have gotten them to Sweden in much less time and the other people.-Jonah
I agree with Susanne. If their friendship wasn't strong enough they could not have tried harder and risked so much for helping them escape. Probably if the didn't try hard enogh they would of probably got caught or killed for helping them to try to escape. They tried hard since they were very good friends and escaped.If I were Annemarie I would be too scared and probably get caught if I tried to help because the soldiers are very scary and intimidating if I saw and got confronted.-Yong Ho

For example when Annemarie saved Ellen's life by taking off Ellen's neckless, Annemarie might not remember the neckless if she hadin't have been such good friends with Ellen. I also think that her friendship with Ellen helped Annemarie to be brave. For example when Annemarie was running the woods she might not have been brave enough to get though if she haden't known she was saving her friend.-Melissa
